Bangkok has a major river, Chao Phraya, running through the heart of the city. We spent a leisurely morning touring Bangkok on a river ferry. These are the boats the locals use as transportation to get around and they are cheap. The river is alive-it's used to transport people and goods and it is clean and teeming with fish.

When we got off the ferry we headed to the Skytrain which took us to the shopping mall called MBK. This place has five floors of shops. The first three floors are mostly clothing and shoes, the fourth floor is electronics, and the fifth is furniture and a food court. This is where the locals shop for bargains.
Today is our last day in Bangkok. We've enjoyed our time here. The city is exceptionally clean and we never felt unsafe. We had to be wary of scams-not dangerous, just trying to part us from our money.
We had a tasty Thai lunch at the Blue Elephant Restaurant. Yummy flavours artfully presented. Then, we waddled back to the Holiday Inn to pack up for the overnight train to Chaing Mai. We're lurking about the hotel until 7 pm when we leave for the train station.
The journey is 14 hours. Al has the lower berth and Kim the upper. We paid for first class so we hope we have a door and not a curtain.

Hey Al, what did you get on these shopping adventures. I hope there was a movie playing on the electronics floor.
ReplyDeleteSmart thinking - put the food court on the fifth floor that way you can't buy much as you would have to lug all those bags to the top floor to eat and back down again - shame - knowing Kim she probably brought the concierge or cabana boy with her !!
